Self-evaluation

Strengths

*I had everything planned out and knew what I was going to do precisely with a few minor backup plans if certain things went wrong.
*I set all required equipment out (with some extras), well before the first student entered the room. Also making sure that the flipchart was in a position where everyone could see it.
*As it was on a subject I was interested in and had knowledge of, I was able to answer any question thrown at me. In fact, I liked the students asking questions.
*I created a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere throughout by giving feedback and by being encouraging and humorous.
*I got the students in the ‘mood’ I was hoping for by using a quick ‘icebreaker’ that also helped them within the main part of the lesson.

Weaknesses
*I was afraid of ‘annoying’ the class by starting the lesson and trying to get their attention.
*I still have to work on my nervousness and lack of self-confidence.
*I shouldn’t have voiced my worries and self-doubt to the class.

Action require to improve same session in future
*A teacher has to be seen as a confident and competent person. So I shouldn’t be telling the students how useless and/or nervous I am. For the same reasons I shouldn’t be afraid of making some noise to get the students attention and stop them from chatting so I can start a class.
*If possible, to extend the length of the lesson to make sure all the steps are clear and to give some more background to the drawing style. Extra time would also allow me to have more one-to-one time with each student to address his or her individual needs as well as more time for questions & answers.
